Quick start guide

How to set up your Limit 8 Multi-capture kit

1

Plug the supplied switch and encoder together with the short Cat6 cable supplied.
The encoders GbE port plugs into port 1(bottom left) of the switch, as shown.
The switch is self-powered from the encoder via PoE, no need for a second power supply.

Apply power and power on the Encoder unit.

2

Plug up your capture and review Macbook’s into ports 2-23 of the switch. Note: Port 1(bottom left) and Port 24(top right) must not be used for Macbook connection.

On your Capture and Review Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network > Select your wired ethernet interface.

Configure IPv4 to “Using DHCP” for its connected USB-C network adapters.
Your Macbooks should then get an appropriate address in the correct kit range (usually 10.84.x.x or 10.88.x.x), as shown.

3

Add your HD/3G-SDI sources to the encoders SDI I/P BNC connectors. The ENC SDI OK LED will illuminate when a valid signal is detected.

We recommend using HD-SDI formats such as 720p25/29.97/30, 1080p25/29.97/30 and 1080i50/59.94/60. 3G-SDI formats such as 1080p50/59.94/60 require high grade and shorter length coax.

Also, match resolutions and frame rates for your nominal encode standard/region.

4

There is a label on the top of the encoder showing the pre-configured rtsp:// addresses, add those addresses into SportsCode or your analyst platform.

For Sportscode:

Capture > gear icon > feeds tab > add new + > copy the rtsp addresses on the label.

Suggest you set your capture preset in sports code to “from source”, so your capture laptop doesn’t do any re-encode hard work.

Optional Steps

5

Encoder settings.

The Encoder is sent pre-configured to 720p25 or 720p30 depending on your region. Bitrate of 5Mb/s, Keyframe(GOP) of 25 or 30, which suits most applications.

The web interface is a quick way to see status and change settings. Under status you can see SDI input resolution, corrupt input frames and more.

The label on top of the encoder shows the web(http://) address for the encoder, the 8-ch unit has two addresses, along with the username and password, user: admin, pw: admin.

For resolution change:

Select each input port > Main stream > choose encoded size > apply. Repeat for inputs 2-4(4ch, 8ch) and 5-8 of blade 2(8ch), reboot. Recommed bitrates: 720p=4-5Mb/s, 1080p=6-8Mb/s.

Remote Access and Remote Assistance.

Wired internet can be plugged into port 24(top right) for remote services. Contact us to learn more, Or here is the recommended stadium internet requirements for remote services.

There is also backup provision for internet via wifi share here. This should be considered as a last resort.

7

Fibre connectivity.

To maintain venue versatility, the encoder and switch can be extended via Single-Mode Fibre between broadcast compound and coach area. Both switch and encoder have a pre-installed BiDi fibre SFP.
